Why am I getting an error/warning message when installing the Questionmark Secure Browser?
We replaced the .exe file for Questionmark Secure for Windows in December 2020.
Some candidates may get a warning message which says something similar to:
"Windows Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk."
This can happen because with a new, downloadable file, some automated checks do not recognise it as a trusted file and may give this warning.
Once enough people have downloaded the new .exe file, the system should flag it as a trusted file but, in the meantime, this may cause concern for candidates.
Note that this is not an error, or a problem with the .exe file, it is simply an automated warning. Candidates will be given the option to continue with the download, at which point, the installation will proceed as intended.
The current .exe file will be replaced by another with a signed EV (Extended Validation) certificate which should stop this for recurring when we do updates to the .exe files in the future. At which point, this Knowledge Base article will be updated to reflect this.
